Thermal receipt printers use heat and special receipt paper to print, giving you quick, quiet, and reliable performance. These receipts are susceptible to heat and humidity, so we recommend thermal receipt printers for retail, hospitality, or restaurant dining room applications.
Impact printers use a ribbon to transfer ink to regular receipt paper, giving you a more robust printout than a thermal receipt priner. These printers are louder, however, so we recommend them as kitchen order printers, in dry cleaners, or any place where the elements could render thermal receipts unreadable.
A hybrid or multi-function receipt printer has both impact and thermal printing built-in by default. Generally, the thermal printing portion is for standard receipts, while the impact printer is used for printing slips.
