2D barcode scanners, also known as 2D area imagers, offer greater functionality over standard barcode scanners. With the ability to scan 1D, 2D, stacked, or composite barcodes, even those on LCD screens, 2D barcode scanners are an ideal choice for future-proofing data collection at your business. Certain models can also parse drivers license barcode data, excellent for error free customer information entry.

2D barcode scanners use more advanced optics than linear scanners, generally similar to what you would see in a digital camera. These barcode scanners offer additional functionality over 1D scanners, making them a smart choice for future-proofing data collection at your business.
Because 2D barcode scanners use the same technology as a digital camera, select units can be configured to capture images as well as scan barcodes. Fantastic for proof-of-ID scenarios, such as hospital admitting or auto rental, using a 2D imager for image capture eliminates the need for a bulky flatbed scanner. Most scanners take black/white images, however the Honeywell Xenon 1900 Color can take color images if needed.
2D barcode scanners can come equipped to parse driver's license barcodes, sending the data you need in the order you require. This is a fantastic choice for businesses doing repetitive data entry tasks, such as customer loyalty programs or credit card applications.
Handheld 2D Barcode Scanners
Handheld 2D barcode scanners, like the Motorola DS4208, allow for advanced scanning while maintaining a design similar to what you expect from traditional 1D scanners. Most offer similar performance to linear scanners on 1D barcodes, making for minimal training & easy use for your employees.
Presentation 2D Barcode Scanners
For higher volume scanning, like at a grocery store, a Presentation 2D imager is a smart choice. Manufacturers have tuned these scanners for incredibly fast scanning. Some are built with a more ergonomic design, making them a great choice for handheld as well as hands-free scanning. The Datalogic Gryphon I GD4400-B is a fantastic example of a presentation 2D imager, offering aggressive scanning and driver's license parsing in a lightweight design.
Industrial 2D Barcode Scanners
Industrial 2D barcode scanners not only feature an incredibly rugged and durable design, they generally have stronger optics and image capture capabilities than other 2D barcode scanners. Models are available with incredible scanning range, high density scanning, or standard range scanning, giving you a scanner specially designed for your needs.
